Welcome to My World I My Doula Birth Philosophy

Updated: Jun 29, 2022

Hi! I'm Sarah, a birth and postpartum doula serving the Brantford, Brant County, Hamilton and surrounding areas in Ontario, Canada, and I am so passionate about seeing families fall in love with their birth and postpartum journeys and experiencing it the way God intended.

I'm so excited to welcome you to the first post of the Selah Vie blog! I've always had a passion for writing and words so I'm excited to add this space to my existing platforms (I'm most active over on my instagram page @selahviedoulacare if you're not already following me on there!).

Pregnancy and childbirth mark a significant life transition, whether this is your first baby or if you are adding another to your family. As your doula, I'm here to come alongside you, making sure you feel supported, respected and validated along the way, providing you with up-to-date evidence-based information, care and guidance that you need to feel assured and confident to make empowered decisions for you and your baby.

Thought I would kick off my blog posts with an important introductory post on my personal birth philosophy.

Here's what I believe about birth (and what I am so passionate about furthering in this work!):

  • Birth and postpartum are sacred spaces, invitations to communing with God and experiencing Selah (divine moments of pause and reflection)

  • Everyone deserves to feel supported, heard, and cared for during their pregnancy, birth and postpartum journeys - a doula for everyone!

  • You already have everything you need within you - my job is to help pull out the gold in you and give you the tools you need

  • YOU are in charge and YOU call the shots - I’m just along for the ride, making sure you feel supported, respected and validated along the way

  • A positive birth outcome is more than just “healthy mom, healthy baby” but really paying attention to how you felt during your birth experience and whether you felt listened to and respected

Comment if any of this resonates with you and your birth philosophy!
